When we sold our house and lost the yard…the idea of summer put me in a panic state. What would we do? Would the kids drive me insane? Would we become couch potatoes?

Silly me. Living downtown means tons of often free and always fun activities with kids of all ages.  Here is a brief list of fun stuff that we take advantage of.

  • Farmer’s market twice a week–usually includes free live music and social time when we run into our friends.
  • The library. We enroll in the summer reading program and sign up for many activities.
  • Parks. In every direction.
  • Hiking and Biking Trails.
  • Ice Cream shops 🙂
  • Movie theaters
  • Museums
  • Parades and street fairs
  • Picnics and BBQ’s

The most important lesson of downtown life in a smaller space?

I’ve learned to keep two picnic blankets ready–one in the car and one in the house. Water bottles are a must. I have a small, waterproof tote bag that holds the blankets, snacks, and sunscreen. We are ready to roll at a moment’s notice.
