We have been receiving meals from 9 Miles East for several weeks. I have been searching for a meal delivery program that was closer to home with less packaging. The meals are delivered in a cooler that you trade out each week–eliminating boxes, ice packs, and mail delivery for those in the Albany/Capital Region of upstate NY and in Boston!
Swooning over the roasted sweet potatoes and flavorful whole grains in this incredible salad.
First, let me say that the freshness and quality surpasses any meal service that we have ever used. We’ve tried Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, Home Chef, and now–we have a winner. The box that we receive provides approximately 10-12 servings of food for 80.00/week. It includes a variety of fresh salads–available vegan, vegetarian, or with chicken. We receive a soup of the week and a family style meal for four. This week, we enjoyed a hearty beef and vegetable stew over polenta.
The spices and flavors have exceeded my expectations. We have enjoyed Vietnamese, Spanish, Italian, Greek, and Indian recipes. Their soups are thick and flavorful–made with amazing homemade stock. Each meal is chock full of fresh herbs, and exciting tastes and textures. We enjoy the selection of whole grains, beans, and high quality proteins.

I love that 9 Miles East is local and packed with seasonal vegetables. My husband and I enjoy sharing the salads, soups, and stir fries. The kids have been positive about the family meals. It has given me a solution for lunches and quick dinners a few times per week that are highly nutritious and taste incredible.
My chief complaint with past meal delivery services has been the heavy packaging and wilted veggies or questionable temperature of meats and perishables upon arrival. I also find that the foods offered feature less nutritious ingredients than we would like and are based more on meat and starch. With 9 Miles East–vegan is always an option and meals are packed with the highest quality ingredients. They even have nutrition information for most items.
Truthfully, I could make these foods–but the variety and the sheer volume of high quality vegetables would mean more food waste and higher cost. Even the dressings are homemade! I highly recommend giving them a try if you are in the area. They offer smaller plans as well as student and athlete options.
